Formed in 1980, the Alzheimer’s Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. It is their vision to achieve a world without Alzheimer’s and all other dementia. The Walk to End Alzheimer’s raises funds for research and services related to Alzheimer’s disease. In addition to research for a cure, funds raised go towards care, support, awareness, and advocacy of Alzheimer’s patients and their caregivers. Alzheimer’s effects around 1,000 people in the District’s combined service area. Some of those individuals reside in our own MNRC nursing home.
Memorial Hospice makes it a practice to accept all who seek end of life Hospice services from their organization and the Patient Care Account helps them achieve that. Regardless of an individuals ability to pay, Memorial Hospice will accept and care for them in their last days. Memorial Hospice cares for the terminally ill by focusing on what is most important for the patient and their families. Both are provided skilled nursing care, social worker care, spiritual care, and emotional support in their own home by staff and volunteers.
There are over 10,000 sick or injured kids in the region and the Children’s Miracle Network provides financial assistance to these children and their families, assists with the recruitment of pediatric physician to the area, and raises funds to provide needed pediatric equipment to area hospitals and healthcare facilities. The organization also provides personalized miracles to children who are born with or develop challenging or life threatening conditions.
The Moore County Health Foundation provides goods and services to support the health of Moore County. Incorporated in 1996, its first task was to raise funds to build the current EMS Ambulance Building on Binkley Ave. Since then, the Foundation has raised funds for multiple ambulances, a digital mammography machine, a low-dose upgrade for the District CT scanner, funds for the renovation of the MNRC nursing home, anesthesia machines for the District Surgery department, and much more. The Foundation has also provided over 300 scholarships to nursing students in the Moore County area and raised over $2MM to support the District’s addition and renovation project.
The United Way of Moore County raises funds for area nonprofit organizations that directly touch the population of Moore County. These charities include: the Boy Scouts, the CareNet Pregnancy Center, CASA 69, Dumas Area Meals on Wheels, Dumas Discovery Center, Dumas Education & Social Ministries, the Dumas Satellite Workshop, the Epilepsy Foundation, the Moore Boys Coalition, the Moore County Girls Trust, the Moore County Senior Center, the Panhandle Children’s Foundation, Panhandle Community Services, SafePlace, the Texas Panhandle Centers, the Bridge, the Refuge, the Well Health Center, and the YMCA of Moore County. The United Way keeps 98% of the funds it raises in the Moore County community and helps to provide a checks and balances system for its charities to make certain that funds are use appropriately and efficiently.
